Triangle of Awesome
The A1 key to effective riding, whether on a mountain bike, BMX bike, motorcycle or a horse, is establishing a solid base. If you watch the best riders you'll notice that their pedals and knees form a triangle — a Triangle of Awesome.

Leslie,
You’re right: You don’t want to twist your knees. They’re made to bend, not twist.
Step 1: Strive to aim your hips directly forward, without any twist. For a lot people this is hard enough. It reminds me of Warrior 1 in yoga.
Step 2: Once you can do that, strive to align your knees with each other, as in the above video. You can “cheat” by raising your back heel. If you have pedals on your RipRow, you can also drop your front heel.
I hope this helps!

I’m not following what you mean by “squaring your hips”. When I try to do it all I end up doing is twisting my knees, which I know can’t possibly be proper form.
