Pick your stance
RipRow™ gives you lot of options for foot position:
- motocross stance
- bike stance
- your own happy stance
Some ideas to get your feet in the right place:
The slots in the deck correspond with motocross and bike stances. You can put your feet on the slots, or you can place the pedals in the slots then stand on the pedals.
When you stand on the pedals, put the balls of your feet in the middle of the pedals, and try to keep your heels off the deck. This trains phenomenal balance, strength and athleticism. Yes, it's hard to do!
Motocross and horse stance
When you put the balls of your feet on the middle deck slots (or pedals), this replicates the stance you use for motocross, horseback riding and many other sports.
Maintaining fore-aft balance while working the handlebar back and forth is an great challenge.
This is the most secure and safest stance when you're training with high resistance.
Bike stance
When you place one foot on a forward deck slot (or pedal) and the other foot on the rearward deck slot (or pedal), you can replicate your BMX, mountain bike or cyclocross riding stance.
The slots mimic 175mm crank arms. You can adjust your foot position slightly to match your crank length.
If you're a bike rider, you must learn to move well in this stance! It requires a lot of flexibility and core strength, but it's worth dialing in.
If you want to ride your best, in both regular and "switch" stance, be sure to switch pedal positions during workouts.
Forward stance
When you stand in front of the main pivot, with your feet side by side, you can focus on pulling upward. This is like a bent row in the gym, but with a pull as well.
When you use this stance, try lengthening the RAD.
Rearward stance
When you stand in back of the main pivot, with your feet side by side, you can focus on pushing forward. This feels like a batch press, only you're standing on your feet, and there's a pull between the pushes.
When you use this stance, try lengthening the RAD.
